Air Conditioning Maintenance at Auto Authority LLC in Oshkosh

Posted May 27, 2014 12:00 PM

Warm weather or cold, Oshkosh drivers still need to think about their vehicle's air conditioning. Most Oshkosh people don't service their air conditioning until after it fails. At Auto Authority LLC, we can advise you on your vehicle manufacturers preventive maintenance schedules for air conditioning service, just as we do for transmission service, oil changes and so on.

Maintaining your air conditioning system means that you always have enough refrigerant to properly do the job. Small leaks in the vehicle's air conditioning system allow the refrigerant to escape and the system can't cool the air as well. We see that a lot at Auto Authority LLC in Oshkosh.

The refrigerant also contains oil that lubricates air conditioning components and keeps the seals resilient. Low refrigerant and lubricating oil means that the air conditioning parts will wear out prematurely, and all Oshkosh vehicle owners know that air conditioning repairs can be costly. At Auto Authority LLC, we recommended that the air conditioner be run regularly, even during winter months, to keep the parts and seals lubricated.

Oshkosh drivers need to be aware that there's one more thing that isn't directly related to air conditioning service but does impact the quality of the air in your vehicle. And that's your cabin air filter. This filter cleans dust, pollen, pollution and other impurities in the air that come from the heater and air conditioner. The cabin air filter needs to be replaced when it's dirty. If you don't, it'll start to smell. Not all vehicles have one, so ask your Auto Authority LLC service advisor to check your cabin air filter at the same time they're doing your air conditioning service.

Why Is My Check Engine Light On?

Posted May 21, 2014 12:00 PM

The Check Engine Light strikes fear into the hearts of some Oshkosh drivers, and is totally ignored by just as many. Just what it means is a mystery to most people.

Let's get the urgency issues out of the way first. If your Check Engine light is flashing, that means that something is wrong that could cause engine damage. Naturally, you need to get that taken care of right away. If your check engine light is flashing, you shouldn't drive at high speeds, tow or haul heavy loads. Take it easy all the way to your Oshkosh service center.

drive

If the light is glowing steadily, you should keep an eye on it for a day or two. If the light doesn't go off, schedule an appointment with your friendly and knowledgeable pros at Auto Authority LLC to get it checked out.

Some more information on how the Check Engine light works may be helpful for Oshkosh drivers. Most of your engine functions are controlled by a computer, not surprisingly, called an engine control computer. The computer is able to adjust many engine parameters for environmental conditions, engine condition and even the way you drive.

In order to make these adjustments, the computer relies on a network of sensors to provide data. The computer knows the proper operating range for each sensor. When a sensor reading is out of range, the computer runs some tests and may turn on the vehicle's Check Engine light.

A simple example is a loose or missing gas cap. This may cause one of the sensors to read out of range. The computer doesn't know if it's a serious condition that caused the reading or just a loose gas cap, so it stores a trouble code and turns on the Check Engine light.

Now when you tighten up the gas cap, the sensor readings will be in the correct range. The computer will keep checking on the report for a day or two. Since a bad reading didn't come up again, it turns off the Check Engine light. The computer will also try to make adjustments to compensate for some readings. If it can do so, it'll then turn off the Check Engine light.

If the problem can't be resolved then the light will remain on, and you should get your vehicle looked at. Your friendly and knowledgeable pros at Auto Authority LLC will plug a scanner into the on-board diagnostic port and read the trouble code stored in the computer. The trouble code will give the technician a starting place as he diagnoses the cause of the problem.

Give Your Engine Clean Fuel with a New Fuel Filter from Auto Authority LLC

Posted May 15, 2014 12:00 PM

Your vehicle requires plenty of clean fuel to run. If your fuel contains contaminants, your fuel injectors will eventually become clogged up. When this happens, your vehicle engine may not get the proper amount of fuel at the correct pressure to run at peak performance. This hurts performance as you drive around the Oshkosh area. It can also lead to the buildup of harmful deposits on valves and in the combustion chamber.

That's why all vehicles, including vehicles, come equipped with a fuel filter. The job of the filter is to clean out little pieces of dirt and contamination. The filter captures the contaminants and keeps them out of the fuel stream. Of course, like all filters, it will eventually get clogged up and need to be replaced at Auto Authority LLC in Oshkosh.

If your fuel filter is clogged, the vehicle engine can't get all the fuel it needs, and it may sputter at high speeds or quick acceleration. Many fuel filters have a bypass valve that will allow unfiltered fuel through when they are clogged. This keeps your vehicle engine running but doesn't protect it from  contaminated fuel.

Oshkosh drivers may find that they need to change their fuel filter at Auto Authority LLC more frequently as their vehicle ages. Over the years, additional sediment and rust accumulates in the fuel tank and can be drawn into the fuel system. Your fuel filter stands guard at the gates to your engine to protect parts and to maintain performance.

Technician Training at Auto Authority LLC

Posted May 9, 2014 12:00 PM

Your vehicle is important to you, and keeping it running properly is important to your lifestyle. That's why you're smart enough to have it serviced regularly at Auto Authority LLC in Oshkosh. And even though it may just be routine maintenance, you want it done right by automotive professionals.

It's also very important to your Oshkosh service center to keep you happy and on the road. You might be surprised at the amount of money our Oshkosh auto service center spends annually to make sure our friendly and knowledgeable technicians are properly trained.

Auto Authority LLC offers a variety of automotive services for many kinds of vehicles. We need to be current on the latest techniques and parts so that we can give you quality service. Our Oshkosh service centers subscribe to data services that list the high quality parts and fluids recommended by your manufacturer.

And each service has a checklist of standard procedures. Auto Authority LLC technicians follow these procedures so they can safely deliver a consistent level of high-quality service.

Some services at Auto Authority LLC require the use of specialized equipment. Auto Authority LLC technicians are trained extensively on this equipment so that they can service your car quickly and efficiently.

Classroom, video and hands-on training is provided by the company and outside trainers. It's not only important that friendly and knowledgeable technicians be able to perform a given task, they also need to be thoroughly trained in inspection and diagnostic techniques. One of the great services they perform is to detect potential problems before they become serious.

The automotive service industry has standards for classifying and communicating problems. For example, it's one thing to learn that your manufacturer recommends that you change your serpentine belt every 30,000 miles/48,000 km and another to learn that the belt is on the verge of failure. These standards help you understand the urgency of recommendations, letting you make better automotive service decisions.

Wisconsin folks may be interested to know that service technicians (including those at Auto Authority LLC) are trained in compliance with federal and local Oshkosh laws and regulations, including environmental regulations regarding the disposal of used parts and fluids.

It's the goal of Auto Authority LLC to provide fast, courteous service. You should feel free to ask your friendly and knowledgeable technician or one of the managers about your service or for more information about their recommendations.

At Auto Authority LLC, well-trained service providers, established procedures, industry standards and, of course, great people, combine to give you the best auto service in Oshkosh.

Keep Your Oshkosh Car Breathing Free: Engine Air Filter

Posted May 2, 2014 12:00 PM

Hey Oshkosh - this is something really amazing: Your vehicle uses 12,000 times as much air as fuel when you drive it. All of that air has to be filtered to keep your engine clean.

That's like 100 gallons (380 liters) of air every block! The engine air filter is just another example of a very important but inexpensive part that has to do a tremendous amount of work. And when it works, everything goes well. But, when it doesn't, well, it can lead to problems. Of course, your vehicle manufacturer recommends how often to change your air filter. But like most service intervals, where and how you drive your vehicle in Wisconsin affects when your filter needs to be changed.

Dusty conditions around Oshkosh or polluted city driving means you'll need to change your filter more often. Our trained professionals at Auto Authority LLC can check your filter for you. In fact, it's often a routine part of an oil change.

When you think about it, a clogged air filter won't allow as much air through as a clean filter. Your vehicle needs this air to efficiently burn its fuel, giving you better fuel economy and performance.

Dirtier filters don't work as well as clean ones. A filter can only hold so much; after that, it allows dirt to pass right into your engine. Air filters come in all shapes and sizes. They also come in different grades. There are high performance air filters available for most vehicles. These high performance filters cost a little more, but they increase horsepower and may improve fuel economy to boot.

So it's important for Oshkosh drivers to make sure and have their air filter checked. If it needs replacing, it doesn't cost very much at Auto Authority LLC in Oshkosh and it should easily pay for itself in better fuel economy before your next oil change.
